Full Job Description

The role of the volunteer, as part of the team is to assist patients with their journey through the outpatient clinic. Enabling the nursing staff to continue with their professional duties. To help maintain the friendly atmosphere of the clinic. Patient/staff confidentiality should be respected at all times., 1. To greet the patients at the check-in screens, supporting them to use the computerized check-in screen. If late for an appointment, please let the front desk know as they will need to be checked in manually.
2. Identify the waiting area required for the appointment / procedure and assist the patient to locate the waiting area (This may require escorting them to the correct waiting area).
3. To familiarise the patient with the facilities available and inform the patient of their pathway.
4. Direct patients to a seating area where a nurse or midwife will call them.
5. Once the patient leaves the doctors consulting room they should be directed to their next part of their journey:
· To the reception desk to make another appointment
· To be directed outside of dept to another dept ( XRay/hospital phlebotomy dept/Ultrasound/Pharmacy, 1. To assist with patients who required mobility assistance i.e. collecting wheelchair from main reception area etc.
2. Clean and tidy rooms after clinic
3. Running errands for staff i.e. to the secretaries or reception desk etc
4. Helping with fundraising events. Christmas decorations etc.
5. Assisting in minor clerical duties
6. Assist patients through their clinic pathway and alert professional staff immediately if an untoward incident or complaint should arise.
7. Assist the reception desk with any support required (writing out coding sheets and medical records preparation for antenatal and gynae clinics).
