Full Job Description

The post holder will provide support to the Overseas Visitor Lead in their duties and will assist in the identification of overseas visitors who are liable for charge of NHS secondary care treatment. The post holder will liaise with patients, their representatives or carers to ascertain the patient's entitlement to free NHS secondary care treatment., The post holder will be responsible for overseas visitor income identification and collection. The main purpose of the post is the identification of NHS charge-liable and charge-exempt patients across the Trust. The post holder will ensure that all overseas patient activity is accurately recorded and costed, and the billing information provided to the Overseas Lead in a timely manner. The post holder is the designated person for interviewing overseas visitors to ascertain eligibility for NHS care and will act as an advisor for queries on overseas visitors across the Trust. The role will require a high degree of empathy in dealing with extremely sensitive issues, in particular explaining where funding is not available. There will often be language barriers. The post holder will be required to deputise for the Overseas Visitors Lead.,

  • Assist the Overseas Lead in promoting awareness of statutory overseas obligations within the Trust in order to identify those not entitled to free NHS care.
  • Collect key metrics to accurately assess the Trusts performance recovering payments from EU, EFTA & non-EU visitors & migrants. Assist with improving the efficiency of the system overall.
  • Be able to adapt own working to take account of and be responsive to the needs of a changing service.
  • Be able to explain clearly and confidently to patients their financial undertaking and collect payments as required.
  • The ability to raise invoices; where appropriate collect payment in advance of treatment.
  • Ensure the accuracy of billing details.
  • Under the guidance of the Overseas Lead follow up unpaid accounts with debtors.
  • Demonstrate own activities to new or less experienced employees.
  • Competent with IT skills.
  • Assist with business administration including data input.
  • Assist with developing and providing access to patient / staff information leaflets & guides.
  • Adhere to the Trusts governance frameworks.
  • Contribute positively to the effectiveness, safety and efficiency of the teams within which they work.

    The post holder will provide comprehensive administrative support and must have excellent communication and attention to detail skills. The post holder must be proficient in the use of Microsoft packages in order to enter accurate data into databases and produce patient correspondence.
