Full Job Description

We are currently looking for Asbestos Laboratory Technicians to join our team in Warrington and Bromley., As an Asbestos Laboratory Technician with Pennington Choices, you will support the business in delivering services to clients, your principal role will be to book in samples and sample data, analysis of samples, assisting in the weekly running of the laboratory and production of certificates to UKAS accredited standards. Summary of duties to include but not limited to:

  • Undertaking a range of laboratory focused duties, including analysis of samples in adherence to strict analytical and quality standards.
  • Data entry of all results collected from analysis carried out.
  • Formulating asbestos analysis reports
  • Responsible for the output of the laboratory
  • Ensuring a continuous throughput of bulk samples through the laboratory on a daily basis
  • Maintaining stock levels
  • To be up to date with relevant legislation and the Quality Manual
  • To be proactive to ensure the product is delivered on time
  • To contribute to developing new services and systems
  • To meet all legal obligations required to be met by the company as a provider of asbestos related services and an employer
  • To take personal responsibility for productivity and billable time
  • To maintain equipment and tools
  • To contribute to a culture that enables Pennington Choices to be a learning organisation open to challenge and change
  • To proactively engage in training and development provided by the company
  • To support the business by working flexibly and responsively from the company's office or from clients sites as required.
  • To assist in the training of new technicians, passing on valuable skills to new recruits
  • To carry out other such duties as may be reasonably required.

    P401 Certification (Identification of asbestos in bulk samples by PLM)
  • Experience of working in UKAS accredited laboratory around 2 years
  • Scientific/Maths A-levels or HND or Degree in either a science or construction/surveying subject
  • Ability to manage own load, work under pressure and to multiple deadlines
  • Great analytical approach and problem solving
  • You will need to be pro-active, have excellent eyesight and be of calm and patient nature.
  • You will need to be IT literate and have experience of using MS Word and Excel.
  • Experience / knowledge of working with stereomicroscopes/polarised light microscope is desirable, as would previous experience within a lab environment.
  • You will be required to have good communication skills both written and verbal and be able to work well with colleagues across all areas of the business.
  • Client satisfaction is incredibly important to us - so must be to you too. You will need to communicate daily with on-site members via telephone and email.
