Full Job Description

Clinical
+ The resuscitation, examination, investigation, diagnosis and treatment of ED patients.
+ To work as part of a multidisciplinary Team
+ To make appropriate referral to inpatient teams for admission when necessary.
+ Responsibility for patients in the ED / EDU until the patient is referred to specialty teams or admitted to an inpatient ward or returned to the care of their general practitioner.

Other
+ Liaison with senior colleagues to ensure the provision of effective ED clinical services.
+ Responsibility in respect of the reasonable and effective use of hospital and district resources in liaison with ED budget holder.
+ Liaison through the directorate with other staff of the hospital and the health authority.
+ Participation in the Major Incident Procedure
+ Assistance and liaison with emergency responders, including local and regional ambulance services
+ Assistance and liaison with professionals dealing with children in external healthcare setting such as walk-in centres.
+ Teaching and training of undergraduate medical and nursing students; postgraduate doctors and nurses; nurse practitioners; other health professionals (elective students, overseas observers) on placement in the department.
+ Contribution to Clinical Governance activities in the Department
+ Participation in improvement initiatives in the Department e.g., implementation of National Guidance.
Teaching & Academic role
Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates.
Develop research interests in their area of interest and expertise
Managerial responsibilities
Supervise junior staff.
Participate in departmental meetings related to strategic planning.
Take an active role in service review and development
CPD, Audit & Clinical Governance
Participate in CPD activity for which financial support is available
Initiate and undertake appropriate audits as required within the department.

Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients' homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site., We have an exciting opportunity to recruit to a full time PEM trained Consultant within Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust. This Job plan will consist of 10PAs (8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA). Alder Hey is one of the busiest Paediatric Emergency Departments (ED) in the country, providing 24 hour facilities for the care of the acutely ill and injured children of Liverpool, and surrounding districts. n April 2012, Alder Hey became one of two Major Trauma Centres for children in the North-West. The Major Trauma Centre receives trauma patients from parts of Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man as well as Cheshire and Merseyside and is supported by both land and air ambulance., As one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions. In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales and the Isle of Man. We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs in our recently relocated and newly opened state of the art facility.
