An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our neurology team as a Children's Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist. This is a part time Band 7 position for 12 month fixed term however, we welcome an enthusiastic Band 6 with relevant experience an opportunity for development. The Royal London Children's Hospital is a specialist tertiary paediatric hospital treating children with many specialties including gastroenterology, diabetes, oncology, neurology, respiratory, allergy, haematology, trauma/surgery amongst others. We are located in Whitechapel with excellent links to public transportation. You will work within the epilepsy service whilst working closely with the wider neurology team. The overarching role is to holistically support, educate and guide children and their families through the phases of their condition, from diagnosis to discharge or transition to adult services. You will be a resource that provides sound clinical advice and judgement to patients and their families, and healthcare colleagues in acute, community and primary care settings. There are opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement projects and service improvements.Main duties of the job Support and assist a case load of Children and Young People with epilepsy and act as a contact point to ensure continuity of care as they grow older and prepare to transfer to adult services Support and guide services users through the phases of their condition, from diagnosis to discharge or transition to adult services. Assist in the continued development of the paediatric epilepsy service and work in close conjunction with the consultant paediatric neurologists and the paediatric neurology clinical nurse specialists. Work with children and young people to develop culturally appropriate and acceptable ways to engage with them and their families outside of formal hospital appointments Work across the Trust to establish "Young Person's" clinics and formal transition pathways both within the Trust and within our wider clinical networks Implement "Ready, Steady, Go, Hello" within our Young Person's clinic and transition pathway in a way that is fit for our population's needs Provide a holistic review of each Young person with Epilepsy when they enter the transition process and at transfer of care to adult services to ensure that their needs have been met and they have been appropriately treated and managed.

  • Conduct clinical audit and lead on quality improvement projects to ensure that the care we are delivering meets and exceeds expectations.
