Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic paediatric physiotherapist within the Stem Cell Transplant (SCT), Immunology and Cancer units at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity as these specialties are evolving and expanding within the hospital; incorporating research and adoption of novel therapies alongside the building of the new Children's Cancer Centre.Children undergoing treatments within Stem Cell therapy, Immunology and Cancer specialties are surviving longer with new, complex presentations managed between specialist centres and primary care. We are looking for an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Physiotherapist with a special interest in these areas, to join our dynamic, forward thinking and friendly Paediatric Physiotherapy team and manage patients within these services through diagnosis, treatment and beyond.,

  • To undertake all aspects of your clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. To beprofessionally and legally responsible/accountable for all aspects of your own work
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise thiseffectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time
  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of Paediatric patients for those undergoingImmunological, Stem cell therapy, Cancer and Infectious Diseases treatment, using highly specialised investigative and analytical skills.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the effective selection and use of Physiotherapy treatmentsavailable both in the department, outpatient clinics and on the wards. Therapy intervention willinclude musculoskeletal, neurological, neurodevelopmental, respiratory, splinting andprovision of equipment and orthotics, as well as the development of comprehensive dischargeplans
  • To be responsible for evaluating patient progress with the use of appropriate outcomemeasures and goal setting tools. To reassess and alter treatment programmes if required.Specifically to evaluate the impact of pre-transplantation intervention, proactive inpatienttherapy provision and long term follow up in Cancer Immunology and SCT/BMT
  • To offer highly specialised opinion, at times second opinion, regarding diagnosis and bestmanagement, using evidence based practice for patients with complex needs.

    You will be based across theImmunology and Stem Cell Transplant Units, as well as cancer inpatient and daycare wards. You must be able to work flexibly in a fast paced and busy clinical environment, and be able to promote good health and wellbeing. Previous experience of working with children who have undergone cancer and stem cell therapy treatment is essential, and you must be passionate about providing a high quality tertiary service to children, young people (0-18 years) and their families requiring this treatment.
