Full Job Description

This apprenticeship is designed to give you a set of competences, work experience and a qualification leading to a midwifery registration. The apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with an approved training provider. There will be classroom sessions and practice based assessments which all contribute to the learning element of the three year programme. As an apprentice you will be expected to complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your learning and skills in practice in accordance to the apprenticeship framework. Working under the direction of registered practitioners within multidisciplinary teams you will assist in the provision of care and support the users of the service with essential care needs. Be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop own knowledge and skills, achieving competences and Degree Level qualification within agreed timeframes. Seeking support and guidance in a timely manner if any difficulties are encountered. As an apprentice you will work hours per week and as an employee of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust will be expected to adhere to the Trust policies. In addition you will be required to adhere to the training requirements and policies as stipulated by the training provider. Attainment of academic achievement is a requirement of the university and the Trust will uphold and respect the decision of the training provider.,

  • To complete your apprenticeship programme
  • To work to the agreed NMC standards for the apprenticeship role
  • Work with the Trust policies and protocols and enable all members of the MDT to carry out care within these guidelines
  • Complete the core skills and appropriate competencies as set out in the competencies aligned to bandings as you develop and progress throughout your apprenticeship programme and in line with your professional development throughout your apprenticeship with UCLH
  • To develop an understanding of the midwifery process and the rationale for each stage within your training programme
  • Maintain efficient and effective communication and working relationships with other professional groups and staff working within the Trust
  • Fully attend all allocated placements to attain a wide range of learning opportunities and contexts as necessary to fully deliver the required learning outcomes
  • Demonstrate learning by achieving all your educational requirements throughout your apprenticeship 3 year programme
  • Work as part of a team during each of your placements
  • Always acknowledge and work within limits of your own competence and knowledge base
  • Ensure you know who to ask for help and support during your placements and who your link mentor / tutor is within the university
