Full Job Description

We are pleased to offer a 12 months post at Oxford University Hospitals Paediatric Critical Care and Southampton and Oxford Retrieval (SORT) service. The post is dedicated to developing the management of paediatric trauma pathway within our region while out of hours commitments will be with the Southampton and Oxford Retrieval Service.

This post would be a dedicated stand-alone fellow post working across specialties within the Oxford University hospitals, coordinating the specialist care for paediatric trauma patients, while building substantive education roles across the region and pre-hospitably to improve paediatric trauma management across our network.

Oxford University Hospital (OUH) is a paediatric major trauma centre and manages paediatric trauma patents presenting locally, or transferred to OUH following presentation to one of the district general hospitals in Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We expect that the trauma fellow will be involved throughout the patient journey at OUH, from stabilization of the patient in ED, through admission to paediatric critical care and the rehabilitation pathway as needed. Their day time work will be focused on the trauma pathway and its delivery and development.

Southampton and Oxford Retrieval Service (SORT), Paediatric Critical Care, Oxford University Hospital

The Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) unit provides intensive and high dependency care to the local population and children of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire as well as further afield. It comprises an eight-bedded Intensive Care Area and an adjacent eight-bedded High Dependency ward

Paediatric Intensive Care retrievals from the Oxford region are managed on a 24-hour basis jointly with Southampton General Hospital under the umbrella of the Southampton Oxford Retrieval Team (SORT). SORT provides support to over 15 District General Hospitals in the combined South Central Region. Successful applicants will work out of hours as a retrieval fellow, undertaking independent retrievals of critically ill children between the DGHs and OUH., Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. It provides a wide range of general and specialist clinical services and is a base for medical education, training and research.The Trust comprises four hospitals - the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
