Full Job Description

To provide support to the Commercial Litigation and International Arbitration team including research, assistance with filings and general administration tasks
Responsibilities/Duties

Commercial Litigation and International Arbitration Duties:

  • Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal research and initial case assessments

  • Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics etc.)

  • Assist with strategic and background due diligence on counsel, arbitrators

  • Maintain case files/document sets electronically and otherwise as required

  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices for filings

  • Give input to disclosure/document production processes and assist with operation of e-databases internally or via external vendors for such processes

  • Gather relevant information from a variety of sources

  • Liaise with internal/external third parties, including third party take-on and engagement procedures;

  • Assist with witness familiarisation

  • Organise and attend arbitration hearings and take responsibility for IT resources, support functions, remote hearing processes, tribunal document updates, logistics and arrangements

  • Assist with preparation of costs schedules/submissions

  • Execute filings with arbitration tribunals and parties

  • Attend Court in person where required to effect filings/applications and handle ancillary processes

  • Proactively assist with practice management and development, including BD events, precedent resources, know-how dissemination and retention


  • General Paralegal duties:
  • Monitor group and personal emails for work requests

  • Prioritize work to manage time effectively and meet deadlines

  • Prepare for and attend departmental meetings and training sessions

  • Review documents/agreements - proofread, review defined terms and cross-references

  • Research using external subscription services (PLC, Westlaw, LexisNexis)

  • Maintaining / updating closing checklists and providing ongoing status updates

  • Conforming execution versions of documents

  • Creating document closing "bibles"

  • General administration tasks and other ad hoc duties as required

    Educated to at least a bachelor's degree level in law (or equivalent)

  • I.T. literate with a good knowledge of and competency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe PDF, Filesite and iManage

  • Prior experience working in a commercial disputes team in London is essential

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail essential

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with partners, clients and staff at all levels

  • Motivated self-starter who is a good team player and able to use their initiative

  • Flexibility - overtime will be required from time to time at short notice, to meet the needs of the client.
