Full Job Description

This is a community based role covering the North Lancashire and South Cumbria area. We are seeking applications from confident and enthusiastic professionals who are passionate about working in a perinatal service and have experience or understanding of mental health. Post holders will work with women and their babies providing parent infant interventions with the aim to supporting bond and attachment. We welcome applications from both male and female applicants and although advantageous, there is no requirement to have previous perinatal experience, as training will be provided.

  • To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of care to mothers experiencing mental health difficulties whilst ensure that the wellbeing of infant remains paramount at all times.
  • Post holders will work with women and their babies and provide parent infant interventions which will aim to strengthen bond with the aim to develop a secure attachment.
  • To offer support to parent in gaining understanding of baby and the promotion of Infant Mental Health using evidence based information.
  • To be able to promote the voice of the baby and evidence this.
  • To provide monitoring of mental health and risk during visits, to support the management under the direction of the perinatal clinicians. To report the outcome of such monitoring contact.
  • To promote a safe and stimulating environment, which enables parent to support their baby to reach their developmental milestones.
  • To offer a person centred approach that is compassion focussed and non judgemental.
  • To work in partnership with universal services that include; Health Visiting, children centres and early years settings to promote health and well-being.
  • To participate and contribute to Early Help plans, Team around the family meetings, Child in Need/Protection as required for families with whom you are working.
  • Encouraging social networks through group work and by promoting the parent accessing children's centres and local parenting programmes
  • Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including secondary mental health care across this area. Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.   • Raise concerns with regards to baby's development/physical health with the Lead Practitioner and families Primary care team including Community health visiting services.
  • To attend multi-disciplinary team meetings, multi-professional reviews and child protection case conferences, to report on the identified difficulties between parent/infant and the interventions being offered.
  • Offer a compassionate and non judgemental approach when working with the service user and the family
