Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a locum consultant post in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUHFT). This is an exciting time to join SEM and Rheumatology at OUHFT and become part of a consultant workforce with a reputation for excellence. We are seeking enthusiastic colleagues who are trained in SEM and the interface with rheumatology in the management of complicated musculoskeletal conditions. The post offers integration with a large rheumatology department which has strong academic links to the University of Oxford.

We will support new colleagues in developing teaching and leadership roles. Research activities in the department are considerable.

The appointment is on a part-time basis., The post-holders will be expected to undertake out-patient clinics in the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre as well as developing and expanding clinical out-patient services in Oxfordshire, under the direction of the Clinical Lead of Rheumatology. There will be a strong emphasis on continuing to develop and implement non-face to face clinical encounters (telephone or video) in line with the long term NHS plan. We are charged with achieving a target of 40% of all consultations as non face to face.

The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre is one of four teaching hospitals that comprise the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We have a world-wide reputation for excellence in orthopaedic, rheumatology, sport and exercise medicine, rehabilitation and musculoskeletal radiology and we provide both routine and specialist services in all areas.

Rheumatology specialist services include vasculitis, connective tissue diseases, early arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, sport and exercise medicine, metabolic and rare bone disease and transitional services for adolescent rheumatology. The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre maintains a distinguished medical and nursing tradition since its beginning in 1872. The tradition of clinical excellence and reputation for first class patient care continues today with a team of dedicated staff and consultants working together to put the care and needs of our patients first.

Oxford is a beautiful historic city. We have excellent schools and fabulous communities. There is good access to London, the Cotswolds and rail links around the Country. There is something for everyone.
