Full Job Description

Hours: There is a range of waking night shifts on a fortnightly rota to be discussed at interview. Typical hours are; 10:30pm- 8.30am or 10.30am

Flexibility: Additional hours to cover holidays and sickness as required

Role

We are seeking dedicated female carers to provide waking night care for our client which includes personal care, repositioning, and supervision throughout the night.

Client

Our client is a vibrant young woman in her 30s with special needs, living with her family in Bow, East London. Despite her inability to speak, she understands well and enjoys social activities with her family. She has a cheerful and active personality akin to that of a child. Her interests include visiting a day centre, having her nails painted, going to the park, listening to music, dining out, and using her standing frame.

Care and Support Needs

Our client has severe disabilities and is wheelchair-bound, requiring 24-hour supervision and assistance with all aspects of her daily life. This includes personal care, transfers (using manual handling or hoists), feeding, repositioning, and other tasks. She is unable to communicate or respond to danger, necessitating that support workers and family members anticipate her needs to ensure her health and well-being. She has epilepsy and requires constant supervision to monitor and respond appropriately to seizure activity

Responsibilities

- Provide waking night care including personal care and repositioning.

- Assist client with transfers using manual handling or hoists with two staff members supporting.

- Nutritional and hydration support.

- Supervising and responding accordingly to seizure activity.

- Ensuring safety and well-being throughout the night.

- Keeping detailed records of completed tasks, relevant information (e.g. seizure activity), body checks, and informing handover staff and family of relevant information.

Collaborate effectively with her family to learn the job and become part of a small team dedicated to her overall health and well-being.

- Be vigilant, compassionate and attentive to her needs, using good judgment to anticipate her requirements as she cannot communicate them directly.

- Be comfortable working waking nights and handling the manual aspects of the job.

- Commit to a permanent, long-term position, to ensure consistent care and support.

Our client seeks a respectful and kind female to support her with tasks in a caring manner. She is social, and her interactions with support workers significantly impact her quality of life, health, and well-being. Therefore, she needs someone who can build a strong personal relationship and develop a thorough understanding of her health and social needs.

Due to our client's complex health care needs, support workers must be capable of performing intricate tasks, including clinical support. All staff will receive training to become competent and confident in using equipment and administering medication.

Desirable Experience

- Experience in complex clinical care work, particularly supporting individuals with a learning disability.

- Experience of administering medication

- Training in manual handling and hoist operation.

- Experience in monitoring and responding to seizure activity
