Full Job Description

We are delighted to be recruiting a Pathway Plan Reviewing Officer to join the Independent Safeguarding Unit on a permanent, part-time basis.

This role will be crucial in fulfilling the council's statutory duties to chair multi-agency reviews for cared-experienced young people, ensure their voices are heard and all agencies are fulfilling their duties. As part of the role you will be involved in tracking the progress of plans for our young people and providing advice, guidance and challenge to staff, to ensure positive outcomes. You will be contributing to maintaining practice standards and be part of the collaborative audit schedule.

You will work closely with children's social care teams, education health and providers along with other members of the Independent Safeguarding Unit.

A part-time Pathway Plan Reviewing Officer position has become available in our Safeguarding Unit on a permanent basis. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced social worker to play a key role in advocating for our care-experienced young people and ensuring they have the best possible permanence plan secured in a timely manner. Working closely with Children's Social Care and our partners, you will ensure that all agencies are fulfilling their duties for the young people who have been in our care. Come and be part of #teamwigan!, We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic qualified social worker who has significant experience of working within statutory children's settings, with a sound, up-to-date knowledge of supporting care-experienced young people including legislation, policies and procedures, and independence planning.

It would be ideal if you had previous experience as a Pathway Plan Reviewing Officer or Independent Reviewing Officer, or supervising others. You will need to be able to work calmly and constructively under pressure in a multi-disciplinary arena, and have the ability to communicate and engage with children, young people and their parents/carers.

You should be able to offer high challenge and high support to ensure the best outcomes for our most vulnerable care-experienced young people.

Wigan Council has been voted 'Overall Council of the Year' at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

Here in Wigan, we are moving towards a model of co-produced statutory reviews, placing the child or young person at the centre of the process and encouraging her or him to govern the review process as far as they are comfortable with. We have a great team with significant experience and ambition and would love to hear from you.
