Full Job Description

We are seeking to employ a enthusiastic, highly motivated Patient Flow Coordinator to join our joint services within DPU and SDAU. The Day Procedure Unit team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is one of the major elective surgical Units in East Anglia. Following the Nationally recognised British Association of Day Surgery Directory the Unit is continually reviewing and evaluating its services, providing pre and post operative nurse led care for wide range of surgical specialities, including Urology, Gynae, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Oral, General Surgery, Vascular and Pain Management. The Same Day Admission Unit (SDAU) is a dedicated department which admits and prepares adult patients for elective surgery. Our patients attend the Same Day Admissions Unit for their admission, and after their surgery they are then transferred to an inpatient ward for their recovery and discharge. Our teams works closely with other departments in the Trust, including the Day Procedure Unit, Preoperative Assessment, Surgical Specialty Teams, Anaesthetics, Theatres and the wards., As part of the DPU ward and SDAU team, the opportunity is available to proactively manage patient flow within the ward ensuring that day case capacity is fully utilised. The ward embraces the chance for staff development, and the individual will gain skills in proactively managing the ward patient bed booking system, gaining knowledge and experience at identifying capacity shortfalls and taking steps to ensure capacity is fully utilized. We require the prospective applicants to be flexible and adaptable to our evolving service as we work towards increasing our elective surgery capacity. This includes establishing working relationships with the wider team and supporting the senior staff in ensuring our patients have the best care possible on the day of surgery. The successful applicant will work collaboratively within the team both independently and with direct supervision from others. They will work closely with the requirements of Trust and Departmental policies and procedures to ensure that patient pathways are correctly managed accordingly. Data collection and processing is vital for service improvement; therefore, they will assist the managing team with regular audits. Please be aware the working pattern will include Monday to Sunday shifts, between 7:00 and 20:00. We encourage applicants to approach the manager to discuss any further details and to arrange a visit to the department.
