Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Department at the Royal Derby Hospital for a patient process administrator shift lead. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the Adult and Children's Emergency Department providing a comprehensive front-line receptionist/administrative service booking in patients and answering enquiries from patients, relatives and staff. You will be responsible for processing patient details to create and maintain the patients record whilst they are within the Emergency Department. The post works on a 24-hour shift rotation, rotating between the areas within the department. The role is based within the busy, clinical environment of the Emergency Department. You will be required to assist with the mentoring of new PPAs to the department.Main duties of the job To be the first point of contact for self-presenting patients, answering general queries both face to face and telephone. Registering patients on arrival at the front reception or pit stop. To ensure that patients are received and processed through the Department in line with key performance targets Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist in the overall delivery of patient care. Required to work within a team or alone at times, often without direct supervision. Required to act on own initiative in situations of rapid decision making for example, requesting assistance from medical staff for acutely ill or seriously injured patients on arrival into the department and take immediate actions as required. Responsible for booking of all emergency specialty follow-up outpatient appointments. When appropriate arrange ambulance or (taxi on account) transport for patients, following discussion with the Nurse in Charge. Required to demonstrate job role and mentor new starters or less experienced staff for an 8-week period as necessary. Improving systems and processes to ensure the most efficient service is provided. Responsible for planning and coordination of allocating, distributing and prioritising workloads of the PPA team to ensure consistent levels of service and provide consistent standards.
