We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.Â, Following our continued growth and success in winning major projects across the UK and overseas, we are looking for Pavement Engineers to join our team, working on exciting highway, airfield and port pavement projects. This is an exciting time for our team and we have a strong pipeline of work, providing a range of opportunities to develop your engineering skills and your career.

In your role you will be supported by a strong and friendly team and given opportunities to learn new skills and develop yourself into a technical leader for your discipline with time. The role can be based out of any one of our Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Liverpool, London, Southampton, Croydon, Sheffield or Leeds offices.Â

This is an opportunity to take a role in developing and growing our vibrant multi-sector pavement team and contribute to achieving a high performing shared enterprise with our partners.Â

As a Pavement Engineer you will work with the team to fulfil the needs of our clients across a wide range of projects, whether it is Design and Build (D&B), maintenance and asset management advisory services or innovation and cross cutting services like Net Zero and carbon modelling. You will be using our digital platforms where you will be an integral part of the wider design teams located around the UK. You will promote our health, safety and well-being policies and ensure these are incorporated in any design as well as ensuring design outputs meet our quality obligations and requirements set out in our Business Management System (BMS).,

  • Delivery of airfield pavement design to UK and international design standards;

  • Delivery of highway pavement design to UK and international design standards;

  • Delivery of port pavement design to UK and international design standards;

  • Assessment and prioritisation of pavement intervention works;

  • Optimisation of maintenance and renewal works/schemes for clients;

  • Pavement evaluation and root cause analysis of pavement defects/failures;

  • Supporting colleagues to fully take account of operation and maintenance;

  • Provision of advice on carbon reduction and climate resilience in pavement design and maintenance;

  • Supporting members of the team with their technical and professional development;

    Demonstrable experience in pavement engineering in one or more of the sectors listed (i.e. airfield, highways or ports);

  • Understanding of the main pavement engineering materials, including asphalt, concrete, aggregates and hydraulically bound materials.

  • Demonstrable understanding of pavement evaluation, testing and interpretation of engineering data.Â

  • Civil Engineering degree or equivalent; and,

  • Security Clearance (SC) and/or willingness to obtain SC., High standard of verbal and written communications and willingness to engage and communicate with Clients;

  • Attention to detail and good proofing skills;

  • Strong interpersonal / people skills;

  • Ability to work in a fluid and fast-moving environment;

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people.

  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it., Knowledge of specialist pavement design software such as FAARFIELD or CIRCLY;

  • Other competencies that could add value to your role, such as digital (e.g. coding, 3D modelling, 2D CAD)

  • Good understanding of Net Zero, sustainability and carbon modelling with respect to pavement engineering.

  • Experience in pavement asset management, understanding pavement performance and defining repair solutions.
