Full Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has become available within our Eccles based payroll team for a dynamic and experienced payroll manager. This is a new role and while we are looking for someone that has a solid understanding of payroll processes we are ideally after someone that can lead the team of ten to deliver a great service. Your areas of responsibility will involve:

  • leading the payroll processing and administration team in managing the payroll operations, ensuring each stage of the payroll process is properly actioned, with colleagues being paid accurately and correct payments are made, and appropriate information is communicated to all of our Third Party's e.g. pension provider, HMRC, SAYE and other statutory bodies.
  • as part of the payroll senior team, contributing to the smooth and effective operation of the payroll team: ensuring that payroll is a place where everyone\\'s welcome, well-being comes first and is a place to get on.
  • Leadership of the payroll operations team, manage performance and have effective succession plans in place supporting Booker in 'Making Everyone Welcome' and A Place to Get On'.
  • Map all current processes, review and implement improvements to drive efficiencies and service improvements
  • Assist with Payroll Migrations both to and from SAP
  • Authoriser of e BACS and Faster Payments
  • Ensure the accurate input of payroll data into the payroll database
  • Accountable for the full pay cycle deliver accurate and timely payroll service ensuring both Lunar and weekly colleagues are paid correctly and on time.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as and when required.
  • Complete all statutory and regulatory monthly and annual returns required by HMRC and the Pension providers.
  • Liaise with HMRC, DWP and other appropriate third parties to resolve any queries they may have.
  • Working with Finance undertake monthly reconciliations on all payments
  • To conduct regular systems checks to ensure that the payroll database is working correctly and to identify any problems and escalate.
  • Manage employee queries, whilst adhering to KPI's and delivering high quality customer service.
  • To produce and maintain up-to-date and comprehensive guidance notes on using the payroll elements of SAP.
  • Working with the Audit Team manage and execute payroll audits.
  • To participate in projects relating to the development of SAP, taking a lead on identifying possible improvements to the systems and playing a key role in implementing agreed changes.
  • Deputise in the Absence of the Head of Payroll.

    While we are looking for you to have the technical and practical skills detailed below we are looking for someone that can demonstrate good people management skills with proven ability to effectively work with internal and external teams.
  • To be CIPP Qualified
  • Have Payroll and Pension legislation knowledge
  • Knowledge of SAP with excellent Excel skills
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and prioritise issues, ability to helping design resolutions.
  • Audit experience
  • Desire to learn, add value and drive progress by implementing best practice improvements in a customer focussed environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, being able to communicate effectively and efficiently with colleagues, customers and suppliers.
