Full Job Description

The post holder will be an integral part of the PCC team, providing a vital link between professionals and service users, supporting children and their families. They will promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient and family centred care throughresearch and evidence-based practice. They will be responsible for ensuring the emotional and psychological needs of patients and families are met throughout the critical care admission and beyond through individualised support and appropriate onward referral., o Be a highly competent, knowledgeable practitioner in Paediatric Critical Care, ensuring provision of high-quality evidence-based nursing care for the family of our patients.o Assess & address the emotional & psychological needs of patients & their families throughout the PCC stay from admission to discharge (including pre/post admission where appropriate).o Provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice, & psychosocial support to families on PCC to ensure provision of high-quality care to children & families, addressing sensitive & complex issues.o Facilitate referral & work in collaboration with appropriate support services.o Act as a designated support resource to children, young people and families & other professionals caring for them.o Facilitating access to family bereavement support & follow up care, linking with external support services.o Facilitate the development of all staff within PCC in the support of families in critical care including end of life care
& care after deatho Promote an innovative & progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient & family centred care through research & evidence-based practice.o Support co-ordinated care of long-term patients & contribute to discharge planning.o Ensure Patient & Public Involvement Feedback is integrated into service design and developments.o Work in close co-operation with & communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and outside agencies.

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) at OUHincludes 17 co-located Level 2 and 3 critical care beds, delivering a wide range of specialist services to patients from Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley and Wessex Paediatric Critical Care Operational Delivery Network (TVW PCC ODN). We are a leading Neurosurgical and Major Trauma Centre and have a vast number of medical and surgical specialities. The unit is undergoing an exciting period of estate and workforce development and investment, with a move into newly built unit within the next 5 years.
