We are now expanding our Education team and we are looking for a PE Instructor to lead in the delivery of the BTEC sports qualification in both a practical and theory-based approach As a PE Instructor, you will play an integral part of a child's learning at Oakhill Secure Training Centre to provide and deliver aspiring educational outcomes. You will be responsible for delivering teaching that develops curious, inquisitive and committed minds, where you help and support the children to explore and meet their individual needs and interests. Oakhill STC is a fast paced, complex and challenging environment and as such the successful candidate needs to be resilient, innovative, passionate and work collaboratively with other professionals in a modern Educational setting. Together, as a team, we will empower children to take ownership of their own learning journeys and it is our hope that they will go on to make decisions and life choices that will lead to increasingly positive and productive lives. Not only will you be a PE Instructor, but a mentor to young lives who will develop transparent and collaborative ways of working to engender openness, trust and inclusion with the children. The regime at the centre needs to balance safety, safeguarding, health, wellbeing and learning and development opportunities for the children. You will motivate, inspire and lead them to success, despite the significant challenges of a complex environment, but also give them hope for the future via Education and Learning. Some of the key responsibilities of this role are:

  • To teach a range of Physical Education qualifications as directed, to a Good or Outstanding Ofsted rated level.
  • To develop the curriculum in line with national requirements, local community needs, and the needs of employment.
  • To develop young people-centered teaching, learning, and assessment strategies, which contribute to increased retention, achievement, and progression.
  • To prepare and monitor appropriate syllabuses, schemes of work, lesson plans, assignments, assessment plans, and learning outcomes in line with G4S and awarding body requirements.
  • To provide regular feedback to young people and to give group and individual tutorial support to enable them to achieve maximum benefit from their course or program.
  • To compile and maintain course and young people records.
  • To follow all processes relating to qualifications and examinations, including registrations and submissions to validating bodies, and liaison with the Oakhill STC exams officer, moderations, and external verifiers in accordance with G4S policy
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

    To succeed in this role, you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual, with a passion for helping, mentoring, and supporting at the heart of everything you do. The role will require you to promote a child centred approach which prioritises both the safeguarding of the children's welfare and wellbeing as well as ensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all the children and employees at the Centre.
  • The successful candidate must have experience in teaching qualifications from Entry Level to Level 3 and a QTS Qualification, together with evidence of the ability to assess effectively and prepare relevant materials. Working as a team player you will have experience of delivering 'Good' or 'Outstanding' Ofsted rated level lessons. You will play a huge part in the rehabilitation of a child's future journey and life choices. We are looking for a highly motivated, caring and determined Education professional, with the ability to be resilient, confident with a tenacious can-do attitude, have the ability to embrace complexity and be a part of a busy, supportive and fast paced team.

    G4S Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) cares for children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. The children in our care can be vulnerable and challenging, with a wide range of complex social and emotional needs.
