Full Job Description

The Peer Support Worker will have lived experience of mental health challenges during the perinatal period, and a knowledge of care options and coping strategies. They will have had the opportunity to address their own emotional and psychological needs in relation to loss and therefore feel psychologically well enough to manage the emotional and wider psychological demands of this role., The peer support worker will hold a caseload and support patients within the community by seeing them in their homes. This could also include supporting them to attend groups or other community social activity.

Supporting to run groups lead by other professions within the service. Attending and contributing to weekly MDTs.

In addition to

  • Establishing supportive, positive and respectful relationships with all people you come in contact with.

  • Providing peer support, maintaining professional boundaries. Helping people identify recovery goals themselves. Supporting service users to identify and overcome fears within a relationship of empathy and trust.

  • Undertaking appropriate administrative duties for delivering effective and timely care, including updating patient records.

    The role of Peer Support Worker across Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland has been developed to specifically utilise the skills of people who have lived experience of having received Secondary Care Mental Health services. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Peer Support Workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others.

    The role will provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users in order for them to regain control over their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, they will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of personally valued roles and connection to local communities.
