Full Job Description
The People Business Partner will collaborate closely with business leaders to shape and execute impactful talent and organisational development plans. As a key member of the business leadership team, they'll directly support the achievement of strategic business goals. In this role, you'll partner with senior directors in our largest, most complex areas, bringing fresh opportunities to the table where talent and organisation development can drive real value. Using data and business insights, you'll help build a stronger organisation and support our leaders in meeting their objectives. Key elements of the role include:
- Collaborating with peer groups and the Director of People Business Partnering to develop strategic workforce plans.
- Co-owning delivery of business and strategic workforce plans with the leadership team
- Coaching senior leaders and influencing them to grow and develop talent, promoting a culture of learning and growth.
- Working with peers to identify and build skills for the future.
- Influencing the development of policies, products and initiatives that address future talent and organisational needs.
- Diagnosing the talent & organisational implications of business change and leading strategic organisational re-design, including oversight of implementation
- Working with the Organisation Development Team in the delivery of projects, providing direction, coaching, mentoring and suitable challenge to enable delivery., Partner with senior leaders as an equal on decisions relating to talent progression and retention, and in the alignment of organisation design with business strategy.
- Set direction for Organisation Development Leads and Specialists in the delivery of projects for the business area and enable delivery through collaborative working and coaching.
- Co-create plans with leadership teams to enable delivery of the strategic workforce plan and oversee delivery, including coaching and enabling leaders to deliver their accountabilities as part of the plan, so that the impact is realised.
- Provide data and insight and actively participate in business planning so that people considerations are at the heart of business plans and the right areas are prioritised.
- Build and manage relationships with senior leaders, bringing challenge and thought leadership so that talent & organisational development are at the heart of their business delivery and the People function builds its credibility and impact.
- Act as a coach to senior leaders within the business area and help improve relationships and ways of working to build One British Council and maximise the British Council's impact.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the People team so that business insight and needs are at the heart of product and initiative design and therefore achieve maximum impact.
- Provide input to the Talent & OD budget so that the biggest impact opportunities are prioritised in spending decisions.
- Act as the business partner to designated senior directors within the business area and provide coaching in all aspects of strategic HR to build organisational capability in strategic talent management and organisational development.
- Consult with the senior leadership team and use data and insight to identify solutions to strategic people-related problems.

- University degree or equivalent professional experience.
- CIPD or equivalent OD / Change qualification (desirable).
