Full Job Description

12 hours a week, 48 hours a month, over evenings, weekends and holidays. The days and hours will be flexible and will be agreed mutually in advance.
About the job role
We are looking for someone to support our son mainly outside the home. To take him on outings, attend activities/ groups and support him with his independence. He may need some personal care assistance whilst out, but not always.
We have a very strong willed but lovable, determined, funny, young adult son who enjoys the world at his own pace and time. He is great company with the most amazing laugh.
We are looking for support who will see the world through his eyes, will listen, and understand him, provide space and assurance. Someone who understands how frightening the world can be and will stand alongside our son, knowing when to step back and when he needs comfort and re-assurance.
An understanding of communication that goes beyond the spoken word, the ability to listen to what's not being said, and assess the situation to prevent upset.
Our son needs one to one attention and encouragement to participate in small groups. He is able to communicate through gestures, Makaton, some iPad use, some vocabulary and some verbal sounds.
He is a huge character and is quite definite with regards to what he would like to do and will respond with a yes or no answer. He does need to be given patience as he needs time to process information and surroundings and will use techniques to remove himself if feeling uncertain and needs reassurance.
He enjoys walking, visiting National Trust gardens, the zoo, parks, going to the cinema, swimming, cookery, art and crafts, meeting friends, karaoke, disco, dancing, music, books, theatre, he also enjoys shopping and playing with his superzings.
He will try new activities but does need encouragement and reassurance to do so.
Personal Specification
The successful applicant would need to:
Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle insured to include business use.
Be patient, kind, energetic and prepared to give our son time.
Respect privacy and uphold confidentiality at all times.
Establish a professional standard of care which should be maintained at all times.
Respect & safeguard goods & property.
