Full Job Description

This fixed term post (covering maternity leave) will lead transformation work across Sunderland and South Tyneside within cancer pathways to ensure that prehabilitation is available for patients, with the aim of improving cancer outcomes and patient experience.

This project will look at the feasibility of developing and delivering a model of prehabilitation for cancer and will support clinical teams to explore prehabilitation interventions including screening and signposting. The post will support a tumour site specific cancer team at STSFT to deliver targeted exercise intervention as part of a prehabilitation pilot. It aims to use or adapt existing services delivered in the acute trust and the community to support the psychological wellbeing, dietary and physical activity needs of newly diagnosed cancer patients. The post will seek to make a positive difference to those individuals diagnosed with cancer to ensure they have a good experience of cancer care and support them to live as healthily and happily as possible., The post holder will work closely with cancer services and clinical teams, ICB, primary care, the voluntary sector and the Northern Cancer Alliance, to explore prehabilitation interventions in line with national recommendations. The post holder will provide leadership and professional advice to Directorate Managers, MDT Lead Clinicians and Clinical Nurse Specialists around the elements of prehabilitation in cancer.
