Full Job Description

  • To undertake a wide range of stock management, monitoring and dispensing duties in the ward services team.
  • To interact with patients and the wider MDT in facilitating the supply of medicines for inpatients and at discharge.
  • Key Result Areas
  • To carry out general stock management duties in ward based pharmacy areas of the including transfers, stock counts, stock rotation and investigation of stock discrepancies when necessary.
  • To undertake the dispensing of medicines under the direction of Pharmacy Technicians, including interpretation of prescriptions, labelling using JAC dispensing program and assembly of medicines including controlled drugs and clinical trials. Dispensing will be guided by relevant standard operating procedures and practices.
  • To undertake the delivery of dispensed items to ward and other clinical areas in accordance with departmental rotas and in response to patient need. This includes ensuring controlled drugs are signed out upon collection, delivery and when receiving at ward level as per legal guidelines.
  • To undertake the relevant in house training programme (including relevant aspect of the Level 2 NVQ in pharmacy) under the guidance of the Team Leader and the supervision of the technical staff in Patient Services.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be requested by the Chief pharmacist or Team Leader
  • To undertake reviews of patients medications stored in bedside lockers and top up as necessary.
  • To undertake waste management duties for wards.
  • General Responsibilities
  • To undertake any training (managerial and professional) identified by staff appraisal.
  • To participate in weekend and Bank Holiday as needed by the service.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times relating to the patients, staff and the Trust.
  • To actively participate in the Staff Appraisal Process.
  • To be familiar and comply with relevant Operational, Personnel, Health and Safety policies and procedures, including Fire, COSHH, No Smoking and Alcohol.
  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to local infection control policies
