Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the pharmacy team for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the pharmacy department at St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The individual will manage the operational aspects of the procurement, contracts and invoicing services. This is a key role for the procurement of medicines at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Pharmacy Department is highly regarded in the Trust and has over 270 staff members. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal development and further postgraduate education. Investment in facilities includes automated dispensing in our large main dispensary, which covers inpatient, outpatient and home delivery services. We have four satellite dispensaries, attached to specialist areas to promote efficient dispensing. Our dispensaries are led by experienced pharmacy technicians allowing clinical staff to focus on patient care, medicines optimisation and care group work. Automated dispensing cabinets are used in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Ward, supporting automated pharmacy services on ward level. The aseptic unit holds of a "Specials" Manufacturing Authorisation (MS) licence by MHRA., The post holder will manage the operational aspects of the procurement, contracts and invoicing services in order to deliver safe and effective procurement of medicines.

  • To lead the Pharmacy procurement team, under the direction of the Lead Pharmacy Technician - Procurement, Stores and Distribution
  • Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers and external agencies ensuring efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines in line with regional and national pharmacy contracting.
  • Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines including changes to contracts; availability and cost of medicines (including controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines, and specials); and supply issues or delays.
  • Support the procurement team in the day to day purchasing and procurement functions
  • To manage junior members of the procurement team
