We have an exciting opportunity at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Teaching Trust to join our Medicines Optimisation team as a Pharmacy Support Worker (Higher Level) working alongside a ward based, clinical Pharmacy team to ensure that our patients receive the required medication safely and effectively., As a member of the Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation team, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive, ward based, pharmacy service by:
- Talking to patients to assess that any of their own medication they may have brought with them is safe and suitable for use during admission, to ensure that the patient has a supply of medication to use after they have been discharged and record this information on the electronic medicines prescribing system.
- Ordering medication, as required, to avoid missed doses during admission, using the electronic prescribing system to avoid missed doses.
- Liaising with other members of the pharmacy team and ward staff, at all levels, to contribute to the effective running of the service.
- Dispense medication on the ward for patients to take home, to support a timely discharge and assist the Pharmacy team in counselling patients on new medications provided.
- Transfer medication between wards as required.
- Support nursing staff with medication orders and queries.
- Support the training and development of Pharmacy Support Workers, Trainee Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians, Trainee and Foundation Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Department operates a 7 day service throughout the year and as part of the role you will be expected to participate in the weekend and Bank Holiday rotas. The role may also involve some cross-site working and late nights.
The successful candidate must have an NVQ Level 2 certificate in Pharmacy/Dispensing Services or a GPHC recognised equivalent qualification and have experience of working in a pharmacy environment, either in community or hospital. You will need to be enthusiastic, self-motivated and passionate about patient care. You will have exceptional attention to detail and be able to prioritise the daily workload, along with excellent organisational and communication skills.
