Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacist to join our Pharmacy team to provide leadership and strategic direction for our pharmacy procurement, stores, distribution, homecare and IT teams. This is a key role for the delivery of medicines optimisation services to patients at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Pharmacy Department is highly regarded in the Trust and has over 270 staff members. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal development and further postgraduate education. All of our pharmacists complete a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and we are constantly expanding our pool of non-medical prescribing pharmacists. We support pharmacists to pursue opportunities in research to further expand their portfolio. Investment in facilities includes automated dispensing in our large main dispensary, which covers inpatient, outpatient and home delivery services. We have four satellite dispensaries, attached to specialist areas to promote efficient dispensing. Our dispensaries are led by experienced pharmacy technicians allowing clinical staff to focus on patient care, medicines optimisation and care group work. Automated dispensing cabinets are used in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Ward, supporting automated pharmacy services on ward level. The aseptic unit holds of a "Specials" Manufacturing Authorisation (MS) licence by MHRA., The post holder will be an active member of the pharmacy senior team and will have a significant role in developing the delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient focused pharmacy service. The role will help to shape future direction and forge sustainable and efficient pharmacy service. The post holder will provide senior operational leadership and support to the Deputy Chief Pharmacists and will specifically:

  • Provide operational oversight to the pharmacy procurement, homecare, stores, distribution, Pharmacy IT and ensure the technical aspects of process, roles and responsibilities are defined, performance managed and actioned
  • Lead and project-manage operational initiatives
  • Be responsible for the department-wide delivery, management and performance of pharmacy IT services. The post also leads on the development and strategic planning of IT services and implementation of professional technology services
  • Ensure operational capacity is available to deliver according to demand
  • Contribute to a pharmacy strategy and operational plan to meet the needs of the organisation
  • Work with the Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team
