Full Job Description
The successful candidate will demonstrate dynamism and commitment and be a valued as a team player whilst assisting the Specialist Technicians in the running of the dispensary. As a member of the Patient Services team, you would be encouraged to contribute to the forward planning of the department and help in the co-ordination of workflow whilst undertaking a wide range of duties including accuracy checking and dispensing. Pharmacy strives for excellence with the Trust values at the core of our service. The dispensary opening hours are 8 : 45am - 7pm. There will be a commitment to working late nights in this role. Working hours for this post can be negotiated. Full time and part will be considered. Main duties of the job Undertake a wide rangeof duties at both dispensary andward level, including contributing to medicines managementsystems. Checkdispensed items for accuracy as an accreditedchecker. Contribute to theefficient delivery of the Pharmaceutical Service to Patients, Wards, andDepartments both within the Trust and to other healthcare organisations. Supervisethe work of other staff in Dispensary Services section., Managerial Duties Deputise for the Specialist Techniciansin their absence. Supervise the work of PharmacyTechnicians, Students and Pharmacy Assistant : maintaining standards of serviceand ensuring completion of all specified documentation. Brief staff on rotation andinform them of any changes in working practice. Contribute to departmentalforward planning. Medicines Supply Dispense and issuemedicines to patients, using actual or faxed prescriptions, ensuring that allthe necessary information is available. Provide advice andinformation to patients on how to take their medicines effectively and safely. Check dispenseditems for accuracy as an accredited checker. Take payment forprescription charges and generate a receipt when required. Ensure that allinformation needed for accurate stock control and prescription issues data isrecorded using both paper systems and the computerised Pharmacy InformationSystem (PIS). Liaise withProcurement staff about urgently required medicines and informing patients andother health care staff about supply problems / delays. Dispense clinicaltrial medication and complete all required documentation following the definedStandard Operating Procedures. Dispensespecialist hospital-only medicines and unlicensed medicines which requireaccurate, detailed records. Dispense oralchemotherapy medicines taking necessary precautions detailed in SOPs. Dispensecontrolled drugs and ensure that all legally required records are accurate andup to date. Participate in theWard Stock "Topping - up" service with responsibility for adesignated group of Wards. This will require regular discussion withPharmacists and Ward Managers about medicines usage and stock levels. Replenish theA&E out-of-hours medicine cupboard ensuring prescription reconciliation andaccurate recording of issues to patients. Replenish theout-of-hours Emergency drug cupboard(s) ensuring accurate recording of issuesto patients.
- Physically able to perform the duties of the post.

- BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent.
- Registered with GPHC as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Certificate of Accreditation as a Checking Technician Or willing to complete training once in post. Desirable
- Certificate of Accreditation as a Checking Technician Experience Essential
- Significant post-qualification experience.
- Dispensing of medicines. Desirable
