Full Job Description

Obtain blood samples from patients in support of laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures, to include venepuncture, using standard equipment. Interact directly with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation. Ensure that the patient is comfortable and as relaxed as possible and confirm their agreement to the collection of a blood sample. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity. Check patient identification against EMIS records and confirming with patient whenever possible. Record collection of blood sample in the patients record using correct nursing templates Ensure samples are stored in appropriate containers Ensure that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. Ensure that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notify the GP/Nurse of any significant patient
issues. Perform various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations.
