Full Job Description

We are looking for a experienced nurse to join our the Community Eating Disorder Service (CEDS) you can come from either a mental health or physical health background. The community eating disorder service (CEDS) is a developing and evolving service and is made up of a multi-professional team comprising of a Physician, Psychiatrist, Nurses, Psychologists, Dietitians and Assistant Practitioners and physical health staff. Each patient has a named clinician who supports them with their psychological health and wellbeing. Integrating physical and psychiatric care for patients with eating disorders is essential in managing the complexity of their needs. This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative multi-disciplinary team, to build and lead a physical health monitoring service for people in Devon, who have a moderate to severe eating disorder. We are seeking an experienced, passionate and motivated individual to join the team. You will have a key role in ongoing development and deliver of our physical health clinics. The successful candidate will have been working as a qualified nurse for a significant period and will be able to demonstrate the critical thinking skills needed for safe, autonomous clinical decision making. They will also be able to demonstrate the management and leadership skills needed to successfully set up a service and lead a team.,

  • Management and leadership skills are needed in order to develop the service which is constantly evolving and adapting to meet the needs of the eating disorder population across Devon.
  • Communication with acute medical wards, admission/assessment units and specialist eating disorder units is an essential part of this role.
  • Line management and supporting the health care assistants within the team.
  • Direct monitoring of those individual on the CEDS caseload and acting to maintain/improve their physical health.
  • Motivating and supporting individual's to attend their physical health appointments and obtaining the physical health care they need.
  • Providing advice and guidance to other clinicians in relation to eating disorders and the implications of the condition on individuals physical health.
  • Autonomous, safe and competent clinical decision-making, including assessment and diagnostic skills, such as interpretation of ECGs and blood results, and prescribing for patients within the service, if required.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of policy and procedures.
  • The post holder will contribute to the development and implementation of effective models of care to facilitate timely, physical health monitoring.
  • They will be required to work closely with Primary and Secondary care professionals, from both the mental & physical health care arenas, as well as commissioners, to ensure a collaborative approach to developing best practice standards that meet NICE Guidance.
