Full Job Description

We are delighted to invite applications for physician associate posts in Urgent and Emergency Care at the Royal London Hospital.

The successful candidates will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality urgent and emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year.

The emergency department is welcoming and friendly. Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes Nurses, technicians, and clinical practitioners, working alongside doctors in training, clinical fellows, and Consultants.

All of our team are dedicated to team well-being and the highest standards in clinical care and patient safety.

The post/s includes clinical duties across all areas of the department including the resuscitation room, major trauma, major emergencies, injuries, ambulatory care and observation medicine for both adult and paediatric patients and urgent care. Clinical duties will be tailored to successful candidates qualifications.

The post/s join a consultant team providing a 24/7 consultant presence ensuring the highest levels of emergency care.

Main duties of the job

o Doctors, nurses and Physician Associates in training will be able to gain experience in different hospitals along the whole patient pathway

o Working closely with other partners in an Academic Health Science System enabling teams to secure funds and pool their talents to develop new technology, techniques and treatments

The physician associate programme has been structured to ensure a variety of clinical duties are available. Working within the medical workforce the posts are designed to give each PA the level of supervision and support appropriate for their experience. The program will include working in area teams supervised by an area lead, working one to one with consultants and senior registrars, working within the resuscitation room team supporting the resuscitation room consultant, rounding with consultants and registrars on the EDSDEC.

The PA programme includes education and development program designed to support development. Elements of training are delivered as part of the multidisciplinary team training including participation in simulation training, case-based discussions and clinical governance meetings in addition to education sessions specifically aimed at PAs.
