Full Job Description

We are looking for a specialist mental health physiotherapist to work within a highly skilled and expanding physiotherapy team in Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The role is to act as clinical lead for the specialty primarily based on a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, Low Secure Unit, and an Enhanced Care Unit. There will also be opportunity to work over other units as required within mental health services as well as offering community visits.

The mental health physiotherapy team work to treat a wide variety of conditions, ranging from acute minor injuries to persistent pain and mobility problems. Many of our service users have complex presentations and we provide holistic assessment to improve both mental and physical health. We are a supportive team that divert resources as needed and employ a culture of peer support and development. We provide clinical supervision with external specialists to improve our knowledge and have a journal club to keep up to date with evidence based practice. Continuing Professional Development is supported, and this role will require that this specialist knowledge is used to develop services and teaching opportunities for staff.

  • Providing clinical leadership to coordinate the daily running of the team to ensure a safe and efficient service is delivered

  • Providing evidence based physiotherapy interventions to improve mental and physical health and empowering service users through multidisciplinary care plans to optimise their health and independence

  • Reviewing NICE guidance and Standard Operating Procedures for the service areas covered

  • Providing clinical supervision as required

  • Ensuring clinical targets are met and undertaking audits

  • Undertake complex risk assessments and work as member of MDT

  • Supporting staff and students offering learning experiences

  • Working in partnership and liaising with professionals and external organisations to improve services

  • Work flexibly as part of team to ensure needs of service users, carers and staff are met

    The 2024/25 pay award is due to be reflected in pay from October 2024, with any arrears due paid in November 2024
