Full Job Description

Are you an experienced physiotherapist looking for a new challenge? Do you have a passion for Urgent Care and Frailty? The Urgent Care and Frailty team at Northampton General Hospital are looking to recruit a Band 6 specialist physiotherapist to work with this well-established team. The Urgent Care and Frailty Team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Therapy Support Staff. The Team covers the Emergency Department, Nye Bevan Assessment Unit and the Frailty Assessment Unit. We also work very closely with the extended multidisciplinary team.
We welcome applicants looking to further develop their band 6 skills or those seeking development into their first band 6 role, with our 'Therapies Leadership Development Programme' delivered to support with this transition.
Successful candidates will support newly registered physiotherapists throughout their Preceptorship period with protected time to undertake the role of preceptor. They also will support team leads in the day-today running of the Urgent Care & Frailty therapy team including staff appraisals, teaching, and service evaluation.
The successful candidate will partake in the respiratory on-call service, providing evening and weekend respiratory on-call services and the provision of 7-day therapy services throughout the department., · A Clinical specialist Physiotherapist for the Urgent Care and Frailty Therapy Team.
· Manage a clinical caseload in area including dealing with complex cases.
· Work flexibly to provide cover to other clinical areas according to the needs of patients and demands of the service.
· To participate in 7-day working patterns, including Bank Holidays
· To participate in a respiratory on call service covering evenings (until 10pm) and weekends
· Provide clinical expertise and leadership to a large team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Support staff within the clinical area in the management of patients on the wards and in departments.
· Lead on the annual appraisal of allocated staff, collating a training needs analysis for the Head of Therapies to inform the development of workforce and training plans.
· Participate and assist in the continual learning of all staff so that personal development plans progress and succession planning is promoted reflecting the needs of the therapy services.
· Be responsible for the identification and management of clinical performance issues within therapy staff in the clinical area., Northampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. To support the provision of service to ensure timely assessment and discharge of patients within the Urgent Care and Frailty assessment wards/Emergency Department.
To be an active member of the evening and weekend respiratory on call service.
To provide advanced Physiotherapy assessments and treatments for a wide range of complex conditions and comorbidities providing a diagnosis, plan, and goals to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme to patients.
To work closely with Occupational Therapy colleagues to provide joint therapies assessments and treatment plans enabling efficient use of Therapies Team resources
To manage a caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision, managing attendance of board rounds and ward meetings to contribute significantly to patient flow.
To pro-actively contribute to the timely and efficient discharge planning process by selecting and implementing appropriate assessments and interventions, promoting a joint therapies approach with Occupational Therapy colleagues.
Provide clinical support and access to advice and supervision for junior staff
Support band 7 and 8 colleagues in the day-to-day management and supervision of Therapy teams, including supporting Band 5 Therapists and Therapy support workers.
Mentor physiotherapy students during clinical placements (MSc & BSc) providing support and regular supervision with support from the Practice Development Lead as required
Support newly registered staff during the preceptorship period taking on the role of preceptor, completing regular reviews and clinical supervision.
· To be actively involved in identifying areas for service improvement through evidence-based audit, assisting in the implementation of clinical projects and promoting positive changes within the department.
· Partake in delivery of in-service training and teaching within the department for both registered and non-registered staff.

To work autonomously within departmental clinical teams to provide excellent physiotherapy care to a diverse client group

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentation/multiple pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition
Formulate and deliver a complete specialised physiotherapy programme based on sound knowledge of evidence-based practise and treatment options.
Ensure that all patients have a documented problem list and goals that the patient has been involved in creating
To participate in 7-day working patterns, including Bank Holidays
To be an active member of the respiratory on call evening and weekend rota
To represent the physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at multidisciplinary team meetings. This will include discussion of patient care, progress and involvement in discharge planning.
