Full Job Description

We are looking for a motivated Technical Instructor / Support Worker to work as part of or Cardiac Physiotherapy Team at Princess Royal Hospital. This role will be focused on assisting the Physiotherapist, with the running of the Cardiac Rehabilitation classes and to treat a delegated caseload of patients, who have previously been assessed by a physiotherapist., + To assist the physiotherapist with the running of Cardiac Rehabilitation classes.
+ To undertake standard treatment programmes on a delegated caseload of patients who have been previously assessed by a physiotherapist .
+ To be able to facilitate and analyse basic movement patterns, and feedback to the physiotherapist regarding changes in patients' movement patterns and alignment.
+ To report progress and variances in treatment to the appropriate physiotherapist at the earliest possible opportunity
+ To organise the delegated caseload effectively and efficiently on a day to day basis with guidance from the physiotherapist when needed.
+ To recognise any adverse reactions in the patient during treatment and act accordingly.
+ To be responsible for the equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties, and to adhere to departmental equipment policy and Care Quality Commission Standard. To ensure the safe use of equipment and reporting of faults by self and others including patients, carers and other health professionals.
+ To provide basic spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals, regarding safety issues and according to departmental policy.
+ To promote the understanding of the aims of physiotherapy, and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
+ No clinical decisions regarding appropriateness for treatment should be made and all information regarding the patient status reported back for triage by the physiotherapist.

We look forward to receiving your application and the start of your journey with UHSussex., · To use basic communication skills to encourage patients to undertake their treatment programme, including patients with communication and understanding difficulties, e.g. dysphasia, dementia, learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairments, and those who do not have English as their first language and seek guidance from the Physiotherapists and wider team when necessary.
· To communicate effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure relevant information regarding patients' status is reported back to the team.
· To provide instruction to patients in a group setting, including Cardiac Rehabilitation classes and patient information sessions.
· To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date patient-related documentation in line with legal and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy requirements.
+ To gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work, with the guidance of a Physiotherapist, within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
Service Delivery and Improvement
+ Photocopying, filing and emailing, as requested.
+ Provide administrative support to the cardiac physiotherapy team, i.e.Cardiac class administration, registering new patient referrals, booking appointments, arranging interpreters etc.
+ Maintain updated and accurate records of patient's treatment in line with the department's documentation policy.
+ Maintain and collate activity statistics
+ Assist, as requested, with typing patient related information. To be competent in basic word and excel skills.
+ Become familiar and use Trust IT systems
+ Assist in the provision of a seamless Cardiac Physiotherapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation Service
+ Maintain a clean and tidy working environment, eg. set/tidy gym equipment, prepare and clean heart rate monitors.
+ To participate in service improvement projects.
+ To assist with the measurement and evaluation of delegated work through the use of audit and outcome measures.
+ To comply with all trust policies and procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act, including adherence to Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures.
+ To report all complaints, incidents and accidents to the immediate senior member of staff as soon as possible and document according to trust policy.
People Management and Development
+ Participate in the planning and delivery of in service training
+ Assist in the induction of new staff including demonstrating Functional Capacity tests, cardiac rehabilitation exercise routine and organisational/administrative tasks
+ Adhere to Trust and departmental policies and procedures, inc. The Health and Safety at Work Act.
· Maintain confidentiality and dignity at all times and support people's equality, diversity and inclusion.
· Maintain professionalism in public/ ward areas.
Patient Care Delivery
+ To carry own caseload of patients with predictable conditions who require treatments.
+ Involved in the Rehabilitation of patients using knowledge of exercise-based therapy techniques.
+ To take responsibility for ongoing assessment, treatment, and evaluation of referred patients within their scope of practise without prior consultation with a qualified physiotherapist.
+ To assist nursing staff and therapists as required regarding day-to-day care of patients, e.g. transfers, maintaining hygienic environment.
+ To be able to correctly apply various therapeutic aids as appropriate in discussion with the Physiotherapist, e.g. splints, braces, walking aids, resistance bands, sliding boards, floor pedals, and weights.
+ Read, monitor and safely disconnect / reconnect equipment, knowing when it is acceptable to do so to enable therapeutic treatment to take place in an appropriate setting.
+ Be able to read and interpret monitored information to ensure patient and therapist safety during therapy session e.g. BP, HR, SaO2 etc.
+ To understand the relevance of the therapeutic potential of equipment within treatment planning.
+ Be competent to set up and operate therapeutic and gym equipment in line with the Trusts Health & Safety Guidelines. e.g. monitoring and maintaining the safety and condition of the equipment.
+ To assess, measure, label, adjust to size and issue walking aids as appropriate and various standard splints.
+ Take leadership during tasks undertaken with colleagues' e.g. functional transfers, general mobility, and gait re-education advice.
+ To support Physiotherapist by undertaking skilled Physiotherapy techniques e.g. exercise instruction, gait re-education and functional transfers with individuals.
+ To work collaboratively with relevant Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Professionals (e.g. health care assistants, occupational therapy assistants, nursing staff, and Orthotists) to assist achievement of patient centred goals and maximising the patient's potential.
+ Educate patients, on a range of topics covering Physiotherapy techniques, e.g. Exercises, mobility activities including using walking aids and indoor and outdoor mobility.
