Full Job Description

Are you interested in managing the plant growth facilities, in the School of Biology, at the University of Leeds? Providing a research environment to support our research and teaching in Plant Sciences?
The School of Biology is seeking a horticulturalist, plant scientist or an experienced facility manager to manage our Plant Growth Suite (PGS). The PGS consists of nine temperature-controlled glasshouses and a suite of climate-controlled plant growth rooms, cabinets and tissue culture facilities. These provide controlled environments for the contained growth of a wide variety of transgenic and non-transgenic plants for research, teaching & outreach projects. The PGS forms part of a world class collection of professionally managed facilities that underpins and facilitates the outstanding research and teaching in the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
As Plant Growth Suite manager, you will work closely with research groups, collaborators, other facility managers, the Facilities Directorate and external contractors to provide a research environment that supports our current and future research projects, reflecting millions of pounds of externally-funded research into plant and crop sciences. You will work proactively with colleagues, especially within the Centre for Plant Sciences, to determine requirements and adapt the service to encompass future research needs. Your responsibilities will include overseeing day-to-day operations, managing budgets, advising on plant growth projects, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This is an exciting opportunity to impact research in plant sciences, food security and related areas.
