Full Job Description

The Engineering function at the GSK Ware manufacturing site is responsible for the provision of engineering technical expertise to support the manufacturing, automation and controls systems for all production operations (to ensure production targets are achieved). We are looking for two capable and qualified engineers to join our high-performance team as Platform Equipment Leads. We have a vacancy in our Filling department and another in our Packing and Serialisation department. The purpose of the role is to act as a single point of contact for specific equipment platforms to provide support for manufacturing operations across the Ware manufacturing site. The role requires application of deep specialist engineering knowledge as you will be the engineering technical authority and subject matter expert (SME) for changes to safety systems, quality critical devices, maintenance life plans and performance improvements to increase machine reliability for your equipment platform(s). This extends to developing and maintaining good working relationships with external specialist companies and equipment suppliers who are engaged to deliver projects and/or provide services to the Ware site. Key Responsibilities (include..,);

  • Generating technical improvement project proposals, designs and plans to give optimum investment value, including ownership of the delivery of those planned engineering works, using aligned resource from a matrix team of platform engineers. This may include analysis of equipment performance using a variety of data sources to identify potential improvements with a focus on equipment reliability
  • Manage complex problem solving and investigation for major issues which cannot be resolved by the operational teams. Working with stakeholders from Technical, Quality and Production teams, identify root cause, use engineering judgement to assess risk and identify corrective and preventative actions.
  • Contribute to the engineering Community of Practice and cross-site working and (where appropriate) manage projects and support platform development work to deliver platform aligned activity in support of business aims. This may include supporting major capital projects to drive innovation (within those standardised platforms) for business improvement.
  • Establishing communication and interaction between interdependent platforms at Ware in order to drive coordination, performance improvement and standardization. This extends to ensuring the correct skills and knowledge are developed and aligned within the Engineering Strategic Workforce Plan to improve capability and knowledge through coaching and mentoring.
  • Provide input or advice for the development of Facilities Investment Plan and associated capital budgets.
  • Drive and advocate Machinery Safety for packing equipment platforms, providing technical oversight for Machinery Safety Risk Assessment, Physical Guarding Assessment and packing engineering Top 3 Machinery Safety Risks/Issues.

    This role would suit a motivated person who has strong experience of working in a complex highly-regulated GMP environment. You will be a qualified engineer (to degree-level), with strong stakeholder-management skills. You will have a proven ability to drive performance with a complete focus on providing solutions. You will have strong scientific/technical knowledge to help support relevant processes at the Ware manufacturing site (eg; how they impact the quality and efficacy of the final product)., Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form, and the site has circa 1,500 highly-motivated and capable people working at it. The Ware site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company's pipeline of new medicines in oral and solid dose forms, as well as operating a high-volume commercial production for respiratory devices.,
  • Engineering Qualifications (eg; Engineering degree, Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer, or working towards achieving Chartered Status).
  • Experience of working in a highly-regulated industry (eg; Pharmaceuticals, FMCG or other regulated industry).
  • Specialist engineering knowledge and experience of managing complex manufacturing process and platforms (eg; packing machinery and equipment)
  • Knowledge / experience in current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP)
