Full Job Description

HMP Northumberland have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Maintenance Plumber to join our FM team. You will use appropriate trade skills to provide installation, testing, examination and maintenance works within the prison. As a working prison, HMP Northumberland work towards the resettlement of prisoners upon their release into the community and their integration into society through the skills acquired while in our care. We are committed to supporting people to change their lives for the better and lead law-abiding lives. HMP Northumberland offers a variety of initiatives and programmes to help prisoners engage within the prison's rehabilitative culture. This includes various educational and vocational qualifications, as well as a variety of opportunities for residents to learn new skills within our workshops and industries departments. We have textile, engineering and electrical workshops and can offer prisoners experience in horticulture, market gardens, cleaning, waste management and laundry services on site. Main Responsibilities:

  • Carry out inspection, maintenance, examination, and testing to onsite systems.
  • Read and understand technical diagrams and instructions.
  • Perform general maintenance activities in line with your skill set and support other colleagues where required.
  • Inspect and make improvements to the resident decency standards.
  • Troubleshoot and look to resolve technical issues using appropriate testing devices.
  • Repair and replace building services equipment or fixtures (both mechanical and some basic electrical).
  • Perform a range of mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies are always adhered to.
  • Undertake duties, as required that contribute to the effective and safe operation of the prison.
  • Participate in 'out of hours call out procedures' on an "On Call" rota system and take appropriate action.
  • Work in accordance with Sodexo's policies and procedures.

  • Must have served a recognised apprenticeship and obtained relevant trade qualification.
  • Ability to perform tasks alone or in a team to a high standard and with limited or no supervision.
  • Be professional, motivated, and enthusiastic to work independently and as part of a wider team.
