Full Job Description

I am a happy, kind and generous autistic female, 41 years old, somewhat vulnerable and living in my own flat in Cwmbach, Aberdare. I am looking for a Personal Assistant to support me. My parents, with whom I have a good relationship, live locally in Llwydcoed, Aberdare.

To me, having Aspergers means I have Dysphasia (I speak rapidly and incoherently at times), OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), which has minimal impact on my daily living at present and I also experience episodes of anxiety. When I am extremely anxious, I find aspects of daily living overwhelming, which then has an impact on my mental health. I love routines and structure as they help me plan my day and manage my anxiety.

My hobbies and interests are cinema, walking, aerobics, swimming and generally keeping fit, eating out and attending church. More recently, since my nephew was born, I have loved spending time with him also., I have a local authority care package, that enables me to employ my own Personal Assistants. The purpose of the job is to support me to live independently. This will include accompanying me on social outings, shopping, helping me to organise myself and assisting with my decision making process, thereby calming my innate anxiety which in turn boosts my confidence. There will also be elements of advising and mentoring as well as assisting with cooking with new recipes., Driving me to various places when unwell and unable to drive.
Ensuring my safety at all times.
Assisting me to organise and plan my daily activities.
To be a buddy, confidante and mentor.
To encourage assertiveness, by pushing me to take the lead role in ordering food, cinema tickets and paying etc.
Undertaking any other reasonable tasks that may arise, with agreement.
Learn to maintain good mental health by recognizing the outward signs of early deterioration as in cancelling plans and other physical signs.
Does not involve personal care.

Experience of working with Autism would be an advantage but not essential.
Someone who is mature and dependable, whose outlook is cheerful and outgoing.
Someone who has a sensitive approach, plenty of patience to teach, be able to listen and advise when appropriate.
Similar interests would be preferable.
A car driver with access to their own vehicle including business insurance will be essential.
Someone who will respect my needs but also be assertive and wise when I am irrational.
Someone who will respect my privacy and the confidential nature of working in someone else's home.
Someone who could be flexible to a degree with working hours.
ABOUT THE JOB

Though a part-time job, this will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance.
