Podiatry Specialist

To autonomously manage a complex specialised caseload of patients with a high level of skill and expertise, using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions and discharge without referral to a higher grade.

To ensure a high quality service by complying with College of Podiatrists rules of professional conduct and standards of good practice as well as observing Health Board and department standards and guidelines.

There will also be a requirement to work in community hospitals, GP Practices, and domiciliary environment based on caseload and waiting list demands., To work within one of the specialist areas with a specific case load within the Health Board in Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. This specifically means the MSK and Vascular/ Diabetic high risk foot. Engaging in assessment and appropriate diagnostics for a specialist practitioner within this arena. Working in specialist vascular clinics as required in community and hospital based settings delivering appropriate interventions.

These may include orthotics, physical therapies, acupuncture, Surgical Appliances and knowledge of the Orthopaedic processes and supporting staff in the CMATS and ESP initiatives. A requirement to work within the appliance lab is expected.

To efficiently function as part of a network of Podiatry practitioners to ensure effective and appropriate patient care, gaining guidance from other practitioners from a variety of specialties as necessary.

48 General Practices (GP surgeries), 49 Dental Practices, 98 Community Pharmacies (chemists), 44 General Ophthalmic Practices (including eye health and low vision services), 38 sites providing mental health and learning disability services, care within your own homes.

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
