Full Job Description

The dedicated Rural Crime Team supports the delivery of our commitments within the Rural and Wildlife Policing Strategy 2018-21 and the Police and Crime Plan.

The Rural Crime team have a particular focus and responsibility in relation to offences that relate to farms and agriculture, wildlife, the environment, heritage sites and public protection issues within rural communities. They also focus on identifying domestic abuse in rural communities, and hidden harm such as modern day slavery.

Members of the Rural Crime team are expected to work independently and also as a team to proactively tackle crime in our rural areas. This is an exciting opportunity to proactively tackle rural and wildlife crime and increase engagement and confidence within our more isolated communities.

Work Locations: Macclesfield

Rural Crime team Police Constables:

  • Routinely take primacy of the investigation of wildlife offences, including allegations of illegal hunting, or support local officers as required.

  • Develop tactical options, interventions and projects for addressing rural crime and pursuant of those who cause the greatest harm in rural communities.

  • Identify opportunities to work with partners to target rural crime and wildlife offences.

  • Provide visibility and/or specialist advice at key rural events.

  • Utilise a problem solving approach to resolving long term issues and crime trends.

  • Identify and target rural crime trends through proactive team operations.

  • Develop relationships with neighbouring forces to enable intelligence sharing.

  • Establish links with community groups and partners to gather community intelligence.

  • Utilise engagement opportunities through social and traditional media to facilitate information sharing with the rural community., For the post holders level of responsibility ensure that all; arrangements, activities, equipment, supervision and staff health, welfare and training are complied with as fully detailed in the Health and Safety Policy.

    Must have successfully completed their probationary period.

  • Preferably have knowledge and understanding of rural and wildlife crime and experience in investigating such matters.

  • Demonstrate an ability to undertake effective problem-solving.

  • The post holder will have to demonstrate an ability to work in a multi-agency environment and effective partnership working.

  • Demonstrate effective negotiating and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrate effective use of social media and other methods of effective community engagement to increase confidence.

  • Wildlife Officer training course not essential.

  • Must be able to travel anywhere in the Force area and work flexibly to tackle rural issues/attend key events. This role is subject to a minimum tenure of 2 years.
