Vetting. All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary. Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.

Thames Valley Police depend on a well maintained and efficient fleet to deliver services to our large and diverse communities throughout Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. By being a technician for the police you become an integral part of the thin blue line which is essential in keep people safe. A get it right first time mentality and attention to detail are a must in this busy, fast paced environment.
No two days will be the same, with a blue light repair required one day and a cell van door replacement the next, so an ability to adapt and work in a varied environment is essential. We have an extremely wide array of vehicle makes and models on fleet, all covering different roles from armed response and dog section to crime scene investigation and drone team vehicles, showing the diversity of each potential job and the need for an extraordinary technician to undertake the role.
Candidates must be qualified to City and Guilds, NVQ 3 or an equivalent Motor Vehicle Technology level and have recent experience working as a Motor Vehicle Technician.
Uniquely, there is no bonus system in place or compulsory weekend working, with working hours are Monday to Thursday 0800 to 1600hrs and Friday 0800 to 1530hrs with optional overtime available.
