Full Job Description

We're looking to recruit a Policy Advice and Support Officer to join our Independent Contractor Doctors team within the National Negotiations & Representation (NNR) Directorate. This role will report to the lead for the Private Practice and Professional Fees Committees. The Private Practice Committee (PPC) represents doctors working in private and consulting practice, looking after patients with private medical insurance and self-pay patients. The Professional Fees Committee (PFC) consults and negotiates fees on behalf of doctors on a range of additional work that falls outside their NHS contracts. This role will be responsible for attending various negotiation meetings, taking minutes, undertaking research and drafting written reports and advice on policy issues related to doctors engaged in private practice and doing professional fees work. The successful applicant will support the Lead for the Private Practice and Professional Fees Committee within the team, alongside collaborating with different stakeholders from across the BMA to shape the national debate about doctors' working conditions.

  • The ability to grasp new policy concepts quickly and undertake research and analysis of policy issues.
  • Excellent writing skills with demonstrable experience of drafting policy reports and briefings
  • Experience of providing project support and working towards tight deadlines
  • Good analytical skills with an eye for detail
  • Good communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with counterparts in the department and stakeholders
  • A team player with the ability to work well autonomously and within a team
