Full Job Description

This post sits in the branch responsible for the UK's financial relationship with the EU. This role provides policy oversight regarding two aspects the UK's financial relationship with the European Union: the participation of the UK in EU programmes under the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and fulfilling the UK's financial obligations through the EU Financial Settlement under the Withdrawal Agreement.

In this role, you will:

  • Work on assurance activities for the EU Financial Settlement Invoices

  • Manage the advice process around the payment of EU Financial Settlement Invoices

  • Support the delivery of EU engagement on the Financial Settlement, including the Specialised Committee on Financial Provisions

  • Support ad hoc strategic issues around the EU Financial Settlement

  • Work across government to develop the UK's strategy with regards to UK participation in EU programmes under the TCA

  • Support the delivery of international engagement on participation in EU programmes, including the Specialised Committee on Participation in Union Programmes

  • Lead on the European Finance team's interests in the UK-EU Gibraltar Agreement

  • Manage the cross-government fora that coordinate UK participation in EU programmes.

    The successful candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships with a wide network of partners in HMT and wider government, and use these relationships to deliver your objectives. You will be able to manage your time independently and balance competing demands so that objectives are completed on time. You'll have the ability to communicate complex information clearly, taking into account the needs and perspectives of others. Lastly you will have experience on working on EU policy issues and experience on working on financial reporting issues.

  • About the Team
    We are looking to recruit a Policy Adviser within the European Policy (EP) team). The EP team brings together the Treasury's strategy on our economic and financial relationship with the EU across the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the Withdrawal Agreement (WA) . We work across the International Group, the wider Treasury and other Government departments to ensure the Chancellor and other Treasury Ministers receive strategic advice, analysis and briefing on our evolving relationship with the EU.

    EP is a team of around 20 staff based in London and Darlington, with a mix of specialists, economists and finance professionals. The team is an engaging and encouraging place to work, from the opportunity to work on varied and exciting European policy issues and develop expertise, to a lively social life. We balance long-term policy and strategy development with reactive demands. We support flexible working and encourage applications from all backgrounds.
