Full Job Description

The Open Access (OA) team enables one of the fastest growing areas at Springer Nature. It has responsibility for the overall OA business including business strategy, revenue, performance monitoring, business models, policies, and managing OA transition. Part of the wider commercial business, the OA group works in close coordination with both publishing and sales teams. As OA Policy Coordinator, you will help drive development of Springer Nature's open access policy and strategy to meet market changes and support business needs. Responsible for contributing to policy projects and reviews, you will work closely with the Head of OA Policy and teams across the business to support Springer Nature's open research strategy through coordinating and developing new policy initiatives. This role is offered on a permanent basis and is located in our London or Berlin offices on a hybrid working model. Role Responsibilities:

  • Review existing internal OA policies and identify necessary updates
  • Contribute to development of internal policy projects and reviews to support the company's OA strategy
  • Provide second level support for author and internal OA policy queries
  • Support Head of OA Policy in developing new policy initiatives including defining problem statements, consulting relevant stakeholders, determining research and information required, etc.
  • Ensure effective communication of Springer Nature OA policy to staff and authors through policy documents, FAQs, blogs, presentations, etc.
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in the open access landscape to support the Open Access Team
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams including Author Service, Editorial Rights, Permissions, and Journals Policy & Strategy teams to deliver projects

    Essential
  • Strong research and analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including a high standard of written English, to deal with people at all levels within the company
  • Solid stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build relationships with different team across the business.
  • Strong presentation skills, including expertise in using PowerPoint to present research and analysis
  • Resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries and suggesting new approaches
  • Flexible and organised; able to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities
  • Initiative and ability to work independently
  • Desirable
  • Familiarity with journals and books publishing workflows and systems would be a bonus
  • An understanding of the OA publishing landscape, landscape and policy is advantageous
  • Experience of working in policy development would be a plus, Disability Confident
