Full Job Description

The portering department transfers patients, goods and any other items around the trust in a prompt, professional and efficient manner. Porters respond to requests for their services as quickly as possible in order to provide a positive patient experience in a safe professional manner and first-class service that epitomises the Christie reputation.

This is a position that includes a whole spectrum of duties, from showing compassion and care for patients and relatives to physically demanding tasks such as moving and storing gas cylinders or furniture.

The successful applicant will be on the front line and will be expected to be always polite and respectable.

This is a permanent contract of 37.5 hours per week. This will include a Saturday 0600-1400 shift.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of the portering department is the transfer of patients, goods, and any other items around the trust in a prompt, professional and efficient manner.

It is essential that all porters respond to requests for their services as quickly as possible to provide a positive patient experience in a safe professional manner and first-class service that epitomises the Christie reputation. This position sits within the service agreement with HCA and relates to the service provided by HCA and The Christie Private Care partnership.

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services.
