Job Title: Post Doctoral ResearcherGrade: 7Responsible to: Senior Lecturer in InternationalBusinessOverall PurposeThe Post Doctoral Researcher will conduct relevant research in relation to the LeathertraceBangladesh Project, running within the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Northampton.The research will focus on innovative approaches to waste management in the leather industry as wellthe development of an E-Traceability systems suitable for the Bangladesh Leather Industry context, inalignment with the Leathertrace Project. Interested candidates should note that prior contextualknowledge of the leather industry and/or Bangladeshi Leather Industry is not a compulsoryrequirement to apply.Leathertrace is a funded project by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO),as part of the Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP) programme and isbeing managed by the Centre for Sustainable Business Practices (CSBP) within the Faculty. The projectaims to deploy digitalised traceability and environmental footprint calculation technologies inBangladesh.The Post Doctoral Researcher will be mainly (among other duties) responsible for collating,synthesising, and analysing relevant quantitative and qualitative research data related to theexecution of the project and writing research articles aimed at communicating research findings tothe academic and non-academic public.Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build excellent collaborations with external partners involved in the project and other relevant
  • stakeholders.
  • To carry out quantitative and qualitative research on sustainability in the leather industry, and E-
  • Traceability systems, in alignment with the Leathertrace Project.
  • Lead on and/or contribute to the proposal, design, coordination and organisation of research
  • focused on innovative approaches to waste management in a Bangladesh Tannery Cluster.
  • Lead on and/or contribute to the development of model case studies for a tannery cluster based
  • on Circular Economy Practices.
  • Contribute to the development of a model for financing environmentally friendly traceable
  • leather industry in Bangladesh.
  • Advise individuals and teams on the application of methods of enquiry appropriate for specific
  • research questions.
  • Contribute to research dissemination activities such as reports and peer-reviewed publications,
  • in collaboration with project teams.,
  • Attend regular meetings with project teams.
  • To undertake other such duties commensurate with the post and grade as agreed with line
  • manager.
  • Produce reference materials related to research project activities that can contain insights from
  • the analysis of complex settings.

  • The post holder is required to, understand and convey straightforward information in a clear
  • and accurate manner and occasionally is required to, understand and convey information which needs careful explanation or interpretation to help internal and external stakeholders understand.

  • This post will normally work the standard hours but they may not be confined to standard office
  • hours.
  • The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably
  • requested, independently with support from the project implementation team.
