Full Job Description

This postdoctoral research associate position is to join Dr Agnes Nishimura's research group at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The post-holder will examine the effect of lipid dysregulation in stem cell lines derived from patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Stem cell research and molecular biology techniques will be applied to investigate the potential role of lipids in the disease mechanisms of ALS. The post-holder will participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and departmental research meetings, co-supervise students and manage the stem cells biobank. They will also present data at high-profile international and national meetings

The successful candidate will have significant experience in cell biology and/or advanced molecular biology techniques, and ideally in stem cell research. Candidates should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related biological sciences discipline, a productive track record, and experience covering the full range of duties required for the post.

The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 360 staff based in four academic Centers and one Public Engagement Centre and supports a combined total of c700 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 32 months, with an expected start as soon as possible. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £39,065 - £45,622 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
