Full Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join our team at RCBE. This role is part of an exciting project focused on developing and evaluating a dual sensor for monitoring partial pressures of oxygen (pO2) and carbon dioxide (pCO2) for use in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) devices. Building on previous research, this project aims to integrate a novel fibre optic dual-sensor into the ECMO system to enhance patient outcomes.

The role involves conducting research focused on the development and evaluation of an optochemical sensor for oxygen and carbon dioxide, specifically designed for integration into an ECMO device.

You will be responsible for performing laboratory testing using gas mixtures and optical measurements under various conditions, including blood samples, to assess the sensor's performance.

Collaboration with supervisors and stakeholders is essential, and you will participate in meetings, preparing reports or updates on the project's progress. Additionally, you will document and disseminate research findings through journal and conference publications, and reports, in consultation with the PI and co-I of the project.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. They should have experience in sensor development, particularly with optical sensors, and possess strong laboratory skills, including proficiency in in vitro testing and data analysis. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
