Full Job Description

To provide a range of academic study skills, research methods skills and critical thinking support and tuition for international students accepted on to London Pathway College's PG pathway programmes.

You will be required to:

  • Prepare and teach Postgraduate skills, including 1:1 tutorial support

  • Select appropriate teaching and supplementary course materials and resources

  • Liaise with colleagues and staff members on preparation, delivery, homework, assessment, marking and feedback and any other matter relating to the students' progress and/or programme

  • Administer, invigilate and mark examinations

  • Provide clear, detailed and specific feedback on all formative and summative assessments

  • Keep clear records of work and student attendance

  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions, including assessment standardisation sessions

  • Undertake any other relevant duties as requested by staff members

    Masters or equivalent international qualification in a relevant discipline

  • Significant and relevant teaching experience

  • PG teaching experience

  • Excellent English spoken, written and presentation skills

  • Excellent IT skills

  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative without close supervision

  • Excellent organisational and administration skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to plan, manage and deliver high-quality and up-to-date teaching and learning

  • Ability to mentor and support students/tutorial groups

  • Fosters and develops good relationships with colleagues and the University

  • A commitment to the College's Equal Opportunities policies

  • A willingness to work flexible hours as required, particularly during assessment marking and feedback


  • Desirable Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in teaching (i.e DELTA, Dip. TESOL, PGCE, PgTEAP etc)

  • Knowledge of pathway programmes

  • Teaching experience on pathway programmes within a UK HEI


  • Ability to enhance student learning through flexible and innovative teaching methods, including the use of technology and educational software applications

    London Pathway College offers a range of foundation, pre-sessional, study skills and Pre Masters programmes for students wishing to transition to the University of Portsmouth London's undergraduate and postgraduate courses.


  • The College is a new educational establishment alongside its modern, cutting-edge and progressive partner, the University of Portsmouth London which opened its doors to the first cohort of students in May this year.

    The pathway programmes are run out of the London Pathway College which provides a range of courses, face to face and online, for home and international students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. The support and tuition offered by the department aims to enable students to achieve academic success and boost their personal development skills through:

  • Teaching critical thinking and research skills

  • Improving students' HE reading, writing, speaking and listening skills


  • Students leaving the College will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and strategies to successfully meet and undertake their chosen academic programme at the University of Portsmouth London.

    The programmes are undertaken by students who have been given an unconditional offer of a place at the University of Portsmouth London but who do not possess the required language level to enter the University direct. The programmes are offered both online and on campus.
