Full Job Description

This post is for a Band 5 PPI Lead Researcher for a new Wellcome funded study, SloMo2. SloMo is a digitally supported, cognitive-behavioural therapy for psychosis that improves fear of harm from others (or paranoia). SloMo has developed in close collaboration with people with lived experience of paranoia in psychosis. It works by targeting fast thinking habits and encouraging slow thinking, supporting people to find ways of feeling safer and living well. SloMo consists of 11 sessions with a therapist, with delivery supported by an online therapy platform. This is synchronized with a mobile app, which assists management of worries in daily life. In our large clinical trial, SloMo was found to be improve paranoia, worry, self-concept, quality of life and wellbeing over 6 months, and people found it enjoyable and easy to use. SloMo has been recommended for use in the NHS whilst data is generated to address evidence gaps and inform future guidance (NICE,
2024).
The SloMo2 study will investigate if SloMo therapy can be delivered in NHS routine care. We aim to train 60 therapists across three NHS Trusts to deliver SloMo to 150 patients. The study will examine if and how therapists and patients use SloMo therapy, and whether it works and is associated with cost savings. Understanding participants experience of SloMo is central to the work., This post will involve supporting the recruitment, data collection and analysis of interviews with participants about their experience of receiving SloMo therapy. The post holder will also co-facilitate the local and whole study Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) groups. They will join a friendly study team and will be line managed by the Local Therapy Lead and Study Coordinator, and supported by the Research Assistant Psychologist. There will also be opportunities to meet with the peer researchers at the NHS sites, and mentorship from the PPI Lead for the study., + Conduct interviews with participants about their experience of receiving SloMo
+ Transcribe participant interviews
+ Collaborate with the research team to analyse interview transcripts
+ Monitor and record research activities
+ Collaborate with the research team to promote SloMo in the NHS
+ Support Patient and Public Involvement and public engagement with the SloMo2 study
+ Effectively use supervision and contribute to team meetings
+ Carry out other duties as agreed with the research team
